Job Purpose

The primary role is to provide support and maintenance for installed audio-visual learning technologies, ensuring that the educational experience remains seamless and effective.

Engage in the exploration, development, and implementation of innovative audio-visual learning technologies to keep the university's teaching environments current and efficient as new technologies and pedagogical methods evolve.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Maintain and support audio-visual equipment in designated learning environments.

    Proactively oversee learning spaces through remote monitoring, accurate asset management, and regular maintenance schedules; provide reactive support through emergency assistance and troubleshooting to minimize disruptions to the educational experience.

  2. Collaborate with external vendors and AV contractors, as well as internal teams such as the network infrastructure group, to plan and execute the integration of AV systems, including networked AV, control systems, projection, and switching in both new and existing setups.

    Ensure that installations comply with university standards and deliver exceptional AV services in learning environments.

  3. Work independently or as part of a team, coordinating efforts in the installation and/or replacement of fully integrated AV systems and their components.

    Ensure that systems are thoroughly tested and ready for educational use.
  4. Provide guidance and training to end-users on the operation of various AV technologies available in learning spaces. This includes creating, updating, and reviewing user manuals to enhance the educational experience by ensuring users are proficient with AV technologies.

  5. Stay informed about current and emerging technologies, best practices, and protocols relevant to learning space technology and IT infrastructure.

    Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure that learning space technologies remain relevant and future-proof, enhancing the academic experience.
  6. Offer expert input into the design and practices of learning space AV/IT, ensuring that technology provisions align with user needs and contribute to the university's strategic objectives.

  7. As part of the Audio-Visual Services team, provide audio-visual support, including live audio mixing for teaching and university events.

  8. Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the goals of the wider team and the university.

Knowledge, qualifications, skills and experience Knowledge/qualifications Essential:
  • A proven ability to demonstrate the competencies required for this role, having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar position, or equivalent qualifications such as a Higher National Diploma or CTS standard in AV or IT.
  • Technical knowledge of AV and IT networking relevant to the job responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with MS Windows and AV configuration software, such as Extron Global Configurator.
  • Experience in service delivery within a customer-focused environment.
  • Understanding of network protocols and principles.
  • Knowledge of audio mixing and commissioning best practices.
Skills Essential:
  • Demonstrated personal initiative, self-motivation, and well-developed technical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex issues from information gathering to resolution.
  • Ability to assist a diverse range of users with varying technical knowledge in a clear and supportive manner.
  • Strong organizational skills to meet scheduled activities and deadlines.
  • Capability to effectively transfer skills and knowledge to colleagues and students regarding technical equipment and platforms.
  • Excellent written, oral, communication, and numerical skills.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively as part of an AV/IT technical support team.
Experience Essential:
  • Experience in executing integrated AV system installations.
  • Comprehensive operational and technical knowledge of integrated AV systems, including installation, maintenance, and support of networked AV equipment.
  • Understanding of the operation and topology of networked AV systems in installed environments.
  • Experience in liaising with external stakeholders, including AV contractors.
Desirable:
  • Familiarity with scheduling timetabled events using specialized scheduling software.
  • Strong technical background in current standards and developments in audio-visual technologies.
  • Solid technical IT experience, including knowledge of IP networking.
  • Understanding of the pedagogical benefits of lecture recording.
  • Experience in a customer-focused service delivery environment.
Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 6, £32,332 - £36,024 per annum. This position is full-time and open-ended.
