Job Purpose

The primary objective of this role is to provide support and maintenance for installed audio-visual technologies, ensuring that the educational experience remains seamless and effective.

Engage in the exploration, development, and execution of innovative audio-visual technologies to keep the university's teaching environments up-to-date and efficient as new advancements and methodologies arise.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Maintain and support audio-visual equipment in designated learning environments.

    Proactively oversee learning spaces through remote monitoring, accurate asset tracking, and regular maintenance schedules; respond to urgent support requests to minimize disruptions to the educational experience.

  2. Collaborate with external vendors and AV contractors, as well as internal teams such as the network infrastructure group, to plan and implement AV equipment integration, including networked AV, control systems, and projection technologies in both new and existing setups.

    Ensure that installations adhere to the university's standards for optimal AV service delivery.
  3. Work independently or as part of a team, coordinating with colleagues when necessary to install or replace fully integrated AV systems and their components.

    Ensure that all systems are thoroughly tested and operational prior to use.
  4. Provide guidance and training to end-users on the operation of various AV technologies available in learning spaces, which includes creating and updating user manuals to enhance user competency.
  5. Stay informed about current and emerging technologies, best practices, and protocols related to learning space technology and IT infrastructure.

    Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure that learning space technologies remain relevant and beneficial for the academic community.
  6. Offer expert insights into the design and practices of learning space AV/IT systems, ensuring that technology meets user needs and aligns with the university's strategic goals.
  7. As a member of the Audio-Visual Services team, provide comprehensive audio-visual support, including audio mixing for live teaching sessions and university events.

  8. Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the objectives of the team and the broader goals of the university.

Knowledge, qualifications, skills and experience Knowledge/qualifications Essential:

A1 Demonstrated competencies required for this role, having acquired the necessary skills in a similar position or through relevant qualifications, such as a Higher National Diploma or equivalent, and experience in supporting related systems.

A2 Technical knowledge of AV and IT networking pertinent to the responsibilities of this position.

A3 Proficiency in MS Windows and AV configuration software.

A4 Experience in a customer-focused service delivery environment.

A5 Understanding of network protocols and principles.

A6 Familiarity with audio mixing and commissioning best practices.

Skills Essential:

C1 Ability to demonstrate initiative, self-motivation, and strong problem-solving skills, working methodically through complex issues.

C2 Capable of effectively communicating with a diverse range of users with varying levels of technical knowledge.

C3 Strong organizational skills to meet deadlines and scheduled activities.

Experience Essential:

E1 Proven experience in integrated AV system installations.

E2 Extensive operational and technical knowledge of integrated AV systems, including installation and maintenance.

E3 Understanding of networked AV systems within installed environments.

E4 Experience in working with external stakeholders, including AV contractors.

Desirable:

F1 Familiarity with scheduling events using specialized software.

F2 Strong technical background in audio-visual technologies.

F3 Technical IT experience, including knowledge of IP networking.

F4 Understanding of the pedagogical advantages of lecture recording.

F5 Experience in a customer-focused service delivery setting.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 6, with a competitive annual salary. This position is full-time and open-ended.
