Job Overview

The primary objective of this role is to provide support and maintenance for installed audio-visual technologies, ensuring a seamless learning experience for students as part of the Audio-Visual Services team.

Engage in the exploration, development, and application of innovative audio-visual technologies to keep the university's educational environments effective and up-to-date with emerging technologies and teaching methodologies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Maintain and support audio-visual equipment in designated learning environments.

    Proactively manage learning spaces through remote monitoring, accurate asset tracking, and regular maintenance schedules; respond to emergencies and resolve faults to minimize disruptions to the student learning experience.

  2. Collaborate with external vendors and AV contractors, as well as internal teams such as the network infrastructure group, to plan and execute the integration of AV systems, including networked AV, control systems, and projection technologies, ensuring compliance with university standards.
  3. Work independently or as part of a team to oversee the installation and/or replacement of fully integrated AV systems, ensuring all systems are thoroughly tested and operational for educational use.
  4. Provide guidance and training to end-users on the operation of various AV technologies available in learning spaces, including the development and revision of user manuals to enhance the student learning experience.
  5. Stay informed about current and emerging technologies, best practices, and protocols relevant to learning space technology and IT infrastructure, ensuring that AV technologies remain relevant and effective.
  6. Contribute specialized knowledge to the design and implementation of AV/IT practices in learning spaces, aligning technology provisions with user needs and the university's strategic objectives.
  7. As part of the Audio-Visual Services team, deliver audio-visual support for live teaching and university events.
  8. Undertake additional tasks as assigned to fulfill the broader objectives of the team and the university.
Required Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

  • Proven ability to demonstrate the competencies necessary for this role, with relevant experience or qualifications equivalent to Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8.
  • Technical knowledge of AV and IT networking pertinent to the responsibilities of this position.
  • Familiarity with MS Windows and AV configuration software, such as Extron Global Configurator.
  • Experience in a customer-focused service delivery environment.
  • Understanding of network protocols and principles.
  • Knowledge of audio mixing and commissioning best practices.

Skills

  • Demonstrated personal initiative, self-motivation, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Strong organizational skills to meet deadlines and scheduled activities.

Experience

  • Proven experience in the installation of integrated AV systems.
  • Extensive operational and technical knowledge of integrated AV systems, including installation, maintenance, and support.
  • Understanding of the operation and architecture of networked AV systems.
  • Experience liaising with external stakeholders, including AV contractors.
