Position Overview

This pivotal role is essential in delivering administrative and secretarial assistance to our team of Consultant Histopathologists and Senior Laboratory personnel.

The department is responsible for reporting surgical histology cases and cytology samples, facilitating numerous clinicopathological meetings each month, and providing a comprehensive cellular pathology service to healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of our dedicated team of medical secretaries and administrative staff, the responsibilities of the Lead Medical and MDT Administrative Coordinator include:

  • Audio-typing of histopathology and cytopathology reports utilizing the Winscribe digital dictation system and the pathology information system.
  • Collaborating with fellow secretaries to prepare case lists for multiple multidisciplinary team meetings each month, ensuring accurate patient identification and case compilation.
  • Assisting in the coordination and management of histopathology cases for Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDT) to ensure effective patient management throughout their care journey.
  • Performing various administrative tasks that contribute to the efficient delivery of histopathology services, including responding to telephone and email inquiries.
  • Typing external supplementary reports as required.
  • Providing secretarial support to Consultant Histopathologists, Specialist Registrars, the Laboratory Manager, and Senior Laboratory Staff.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSE Grade C in English Language and Mathematics or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 3.
  • Word-processing/Typing-RSA Level II or equivalent in typing and audio-typing or a comparable secretarial qualification.

Essential Experience

  • Prior secretarial experience in an acute healthcare environment as a medical secretary or similar role.
  • Recent experience in an office setting.

Essential Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of computerized databases and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in inputting accurate and timely data into computer systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of medical terminology.
  • Clear understanding of multidisciplinary team collaboration practices.
