About the Role

The Munich Re Specialty Group is seeking an experienced and skilled professional to fill the position of Head of Specialty Lines Underwriting. This role will be responsible for leading the underwriting strategy and implementation of Specialty Lines business across the group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting Strategy and Implementation: Develop and implement underwriting strategies and guidelines for Specialty Lines business, ensuring consistency across the group.
  • Industry Trends and Analysis: Analyze industry trends and their impact on Specialty Lines portfolio results, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Global Specialty UW Strategies: Implement Global Specialty Underwriting strategies and guidelines, ensuring alignment with group objectives.
  • Thought Leadership and Expertise: Provide thought leadership on Specialty Lines topics, leading the Specialty Lines Underwriting Roundtable and supporting emerging risk analysis and cross-platform initiatives.
  • Underwriting Excellence: Ensure measurable standards for Business Unit Underwriting excellence, including KPIs, best practices, and underwriting risk controls.
  • Regional Portfolio Monitoring: Conduct regional portfolio monitoring to identify opportunities for improving short- and long-term profitability of Specialty Lines portfolio.
  • Quantitative Analytics and Pricing: Implement quantitative analytics and pricing methodologies for Specialty Lines segments, ensuring consistency with Munich Re's overall approach.
  • Guidance and Support: Ensure that guidance provided by CU Munich is well understood throughout the group, participating in Expert Groups and providing cross-divisional support and advice.
  • Reinsurance Coordination: Coordinate with Reinsurance colleagues in various Reinsurance Divisions, supporting Reinsurance underwriting strategy initiatives as needed.
  • Accumulations and Portfolio Management: Periodically assess Specialty Lines accumulations across all group entities to inform Specialty Lines Underwriting Strategy and proactive portfolio management.
Requirements
  • Insurance Underwriting Experience: Minimum of 10 years Specialty Lines Underwriting experience, with a minimum of two Specialty classes of business.
  • Business Acumen: Strong business acumen, with the ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data and make informed decisions.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to explain complex insurance and reinsurance concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Education and Certifications: BS/BA degree, with advanced degree a plus. CPCU, ARe designations preferred.
