Position Summary

As an Underwriting Director within our Facultative team, you will play a pivotal role in driving underwriting excellence and client satisfaction. This position combines the analytical rigor of underwriting with the strategic importance of client relationships, requiring a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting Expertise: Underwrite new and existing facultative property risks in accordance with Arch Re's underwriting philosophy. Analyze submissions, assess coverage needs, evaluate risk hazards, determine capacity, and propose competitive terms for lead or follow business.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and cedants through regular visits, calls, and proactive communication. Understand their unique requirements and provide tailored solutions that meet their specific needs.
  • Market Knowledge: Stay abreast of market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape within the property insurance sector. Develop a deep understanding of relevant legal frameworks, underwriting practices, and industry best practices.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Foster a collaborative work environment by actively engaging with internal teams, sharing insights, and contributing to a culture of knowledge sharing. Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring timely and transparent information flow.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; professional re/insurance designations such as ACII or CPCU are highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in the property facultative insurance market with a strong track record of underwriting success and established relationships with brokers and cedants.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and senior management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build consensus and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
