About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Children's Community Nurse to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multi-professional team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to children and young people with complex and palliative care needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert nursing care and support to children and young people with complex and palliative care needs in their homes, schools, and community settings.
  • Work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to coordinate and provide care that meets the individual needs of each child and family.
  • Contribute to Children's Continuing Care Assessments, Safeguarding meetings, teaching, competency training, staff support, and team management.
  • Participate in palliative and end-of-life care, including contribution to a 24-hour on-call rota.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with children, young people, and their families to ensure high-quality care and support.

Person Specification:

  • Essential Qualifications:
    • Teaching and assessing qualification (e.g. SLAIP, ENB 998)
    • Registered Sick Children's Nurse or Registered Nurse Child Branch
  • Essential Experience:
    • 3 years post-registration experience
    • 2 years recent experience in a community or acute setting
    • Experience and evidence in implementing change
    • Able to demonstrate commitment to high-quality patient care
    • Experience of multidisciplinary working
    • Has an understanding of safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults
    • Experience of working with children who have palliative care needs
    • Experience of providing nursing care to children with complex needs
    • Knowledge of audit and research
    • Leadership and management experience
    • Teaching/presentation experience
    • Good computer skills
    • Experience of supervising others or mentoring
    • Awareness of the function and skills needed of a Lead Professional Role
    • Knowledge of clinical and governance
