Position Overview

The Early Pregnancy Unit at Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Band 5 Registered Adult Nurse or Dual Trained Midwife to join our team.

We are in search of a caring professional who is enthusiastic about enhancing their expertise in Women's Health. Our team is dynamic, supportive, and ready to meet the demands of a busy emergency pregnancy unit.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will be required to possess exceptional communication abilities, both written and verbal, along with the capacity to inspire and manage, adapting to and leading in rapidly evolving situations.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide emotional and medical support to women and their partners facing challenges during the initial 12 weeks of pregnancy, including miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.
  • Conduct triaging and history-taking, either in person or via telephone, and collaborate with the nurse/midwife in charge regarding patient care.
  • Offer guidance to other healthcare professionals and patients under your care.
  • Assist with other specialized clinics operating from the Early Pregnancy Unit, such as the recurrent miscarriage clinic, emergency gynecology, and Manual Vacuum Aspiration procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with the broader multidisciplinary team, including sonography, fertility specialists, and A&E.
  • Work flexibly to meet the unit's needs, including the possibility of weekend shifts on a rotational basis.
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining a conducive learning environment for students and medical colleagues.
  • Engage in Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Work effectively with the integrated multidisciplinary team to develop, implement, and assess care management strategies.

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Adult Nurse or Dual Trained Midwife
  • A strong interest in women's health, pregnancy, and gynecology
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A minimum of 18 months experience in a ward or acute care setting

Desirable Qualifications

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Experience in a women's health or gynecology setting
  • IV cannulation training

Additional Requirements

  • Understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Ability to perform well under pressure

Desirable Knowledge

  • Good understanding of medicines management
  • Familiarity with national and local initiatives related to care in the Early Pregnancy Unit
