Position Overview

Join the dynamic team at Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Maternity Clinical Training Specialist. We are seeking a passionate and experienced midwife to enhance our Clinical Education team.

We are looking for an individual who embodies a nurturing spirit and is dedicated to empowering our workforce. The ideal candidate will possess confidence in educational settings and have a solid background in mentorship. Key responsibilities will include facilitating essential training sessions, conducting simulation exercises, supporting practical learning, and leading workshops focused on situational awareness. You will play a crucial role in helping new and international colleagues gain confidence and competence in their roles.

At ASPH, we take pride in our comprehensive maternity services, which include a homebirth program, a state-of-the-art alongside birthing center, and a level 3 Neonatal Unit. Our midwives gain diverse experiences, from managing uncomplicated pregnancies to developing care plans for high-risk maternal and fetal cases. We emphasize a multidisciplinary approach, collaborating closely with our NICU team to ensure optimal outcomes for infants requiring specialized care.

Key Responsibilities

As a Maternity Clinical Training Specialist, your duties will include:

  • Facilitating our simulation training program in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to enhance practical learning.
  • Utilizing the simulation lab to conduct realistic training scenarios within the clinical environment.
  • Providing on-the-ground support for maternity staff to foster their development in clinical settings.
  • Assisting in the growth of internationally educated midwives, preceptors, and undergraduate students.
  • Welcoming new team members to the maternity unit and supporting their orientation process.
  • Participating in the recruitment of new staff for open positions.
  • Supporting the onboarding and professional development of all maternity support staff.
  • Contributing to the creation of clinical guidelines and policies.
  • Implementing strategies from internal initiatives aimed at enhancing safety and quality.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • NMC Registered Midwife
  • Educated to first degree level
  • Practice Assessor or equivalent qualification
  • Postgraduate Certificate or in progress

Desirable:

  • Teaching qualification
  • Training in NLS/PROMPT/ALSO/MOET
  • Participation in leadership development programs

Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience as a Band 6 midwife in both hospital and community settings
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:

  • Understanding of current national and local midwifery issues
  • Familiarity with the trust's vision, values, and strategic objectives
  • Confidence in public speaking and presentation
  • Ability to drive change and implement new policies
