Job Overview

An exceptional opportunity is available within the Respiratory Physiology Services at our newly established diagnostic hub. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Clinical Respiratory Specialist to become part of our dynamic and growing team. The department provides comprehensive lung function assessments and muscle weakness evaluations. Our sleep service includes limited polysomnography, CPAP initiation, and follow-up reviews.

The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of lung function assessments and diagnostic sleep evaluations, including the setup of limited polysomnography, analysis, and reporting of sleep studies. Proficiency in CPAP therapy, including setup, titration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and patient guidance, is essential. As a successful Band 6 candidate, you will also be expected to actively contribute to the education and training of junior respiratory physiologists and other healthcare professionals, including physiotherapists, nursing staff, medical students, and junior doctors.

The successful applicant should be a friendly, highly motivated individual committed to delivering high-quality service. You must demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

Main Responsibilities

Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Competently conduct a full range of basic lung function tests on adult and pediatric outpatients and inpatients.
  2. Accurately analyze basic lung function tests for adult and pediatric patients.
  3. Effectively set up sleep studies, analyze, and report on findings. Initiate and manage patients on CPAP/VPAP therapy, ensuring appropriate follow-up and reviews.
  4. Review and prioritize inpatient requests for respiratory investigations, including lung function tests, sleep studies, and CPAP/VPAP setups.
  5. Liaise with ward and medical staff to ensure physiologist availability for inpatient testing.
  6. Respond promptly and professionally to emergency situations, maintaining control and requesting assistance as necessary.
  7. Participate in cross-training in other disciplines for ongoing professional development and maintain technical competency standards.
  8. Assist in the efficient operation of the technical service by prioritizing daily workloads as needed.
  9. Deputize for Senior Respiratory Physiologists when required and undertake additional duties as directed by the Clinical Lead Respiratory Physiologist or their deputies.
  10. Identify equipment faults and report issues in a timely manner.
