As a community midwife, you will play a vital role in educating women about their birth options, ensuring they have access to current, evidence-based information to facilitate informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Our three community teams serve a broad area, caring for a diverse group of women with varying needs. You will operate in multiple environments, including healthcare facilities, maternity hubs, and private residences.

Your role will involve working with families from diverse backgrounds, providing comprehensive care throughout their pregnancy journey as an independent practitioner. You will oversee and coordinate the clinical functions of the midwifery team in your designated area, aligning with governmental policies and organizational strategies.

Your leadership will be demonstrated through your involvement in restructuring community and homebirth services, where you will influence, empower, and support your team members. You will also be responsible for managing the performance of your team.

As part of our commitment to quality improvement, you will review clinical incidents and implement measures to mitigate risks within the service.

Job Duties

  • Oversee and coordinate the clinical activities of the midwifery team in alignment with governmental policies and organizational strategies.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, and retention processes for departmental staff.
  • Empower and motivate staff through effective leadership.
  • Ensure appropriate staff deployment and efficient time management.
  • Address short-notice absences to ensure adequate shift coverage.
  • Review clinical incidents and take action to minimize service risks.
  • Assist in developing orientation programs and support new staff members.
  • Monitor and manage sickness absence within the team, taking necessary actions to reduce it.
  • Manage the performance of individual team members.
  • Ensure safe maintenance and storage of equipment, facilitating safe and effective use by all team members.
  • Foster a proactive approach to conflict resolution, grievances, and complaints, anticipating and managing issues as they arise.
  • Collaborate with the Midwifery Leadership team on professional and organizational matters, leading the implementation of new practices as required.
  • Work with the IT lead midwife to optimize the use of electronic patient records for maternity services.

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered and practicing midwife.
  • Mentorship qualification.
  • Significant post-registration experience.
  • Valid UK driving license.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Experience in community midwifery.
  • Knowledge of current national policies relevant to maternity services.
  • Effective communication skills to ensure high standards of care.
  • Ability to travel between various sites.
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of the organization.
  • Awareness of the organization's vision, values, and strategic objectives.
  • Commitment to providing a customer-focused service.

Desirable Qualifications
