Parkinson's Specialist Practitioner Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic nurse or allied health care professional to join our Parkinson's Service as a Parkinson's Specialist Practitioner.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a forward-thinking service that is transforming in response to the needs of our community. As a Parkinson's Specialist Practitioner, you will be responsible for the assessment and management of people with Parkinson's using an advanced level of professional accountability, autonomy, and judgement.

You will work closely with Neurologists, Older People's Services Consultants, Pharmacists, General Practitioners, Therapists, Social Services, and voluntary groups to enhance the care and improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson's.

The role of the Parkinson's Specialist Practitioner is multifaceted, incorporating key functions such as practice policy and standard development, education, research, and professional development. You will have the ability to work autonomously and make key decisions to influence patient care.

We are committed to continuous professional development and offer ongoing training within the Parkinson's service. You will be supported in your development to manage this patient group, including patients with Multiple System Atrophy and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.

The post is currently based at both Poole and Christchurch sites with clinics also held at Wimborne and Swanage hospital. You will work within the hospital and community settings, including clinics and domiciliary visits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and management of people with Parkinson's
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to enhance care and improve quality of life
  • Develop and implement practice policies and standards
  • Provide education and training to patients and their families
  • Contribute to research and professional development

Requirements:

  • Active UK Professional registration with relevant professional body
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification
  • Experience in working in a band 7 clinical role
