Role Summary

Reporting to the Head of Manufacturing, the Safety and Compliance Supervisor will provide leadership, guidance, and oversight for health and safety management activities on-site, working closely with the site Management Team. This role is pivotal in fostering a top-tier safety culture by executing the company's health and safety strategy in collaboration with the broader business health and safety team, site management, and all personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines, regularly reviewing and communicating updates.
  • Guarantee that the organization meets its legal obligations regarding health, safety, and welfare at work, including necessary training and reporting.
  • Oversee the completion and periodic review of risk assessments, method statements, safe operating procedures, and COSHH assessments.
  • Document and investigate all incidents, ensuring that corrective actions and improvements are implemented.
  • Conduct daily safety inspections focusing on housekeeping, chemical storage, REACH compliance, LOLER, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure all personnel are informed about fire safety protocols and that a sufficient number of trained fire wardens are present.
  • Carry out regular fire alarm tests and site evacuation drills.
  • Establish a comprehensive schedule for health and safety inspections, audits, and checks, implementing a structured training program in collaboration with the Regional Training & Development Manager.
  • Collaborate with external health and safety consultants to provide training programs and services.
  • Stay informed about all aspects of health, safety, and welfare legislation, communicating relevant updates to the organization.
  • Lead health and safety committee meetings, preparing and distributing minutes accordingly.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on health and safety activities, including safety concerns, near misses, incidents, and progress on corrective actions.
  • Engage in corrective actions stemming from concerns or internal audits.
  • Organize relevant occupational health and safety surveys, addressing issues such as Styrene, dust, noise, light, and chemical substances, and ensure remedial actions are completed.
  • Coordinate First Aid and Fire Warden refresher training within designated timeframes.
  • Facilitate Health Surveillance for production staff on a biannual basis.
  • Conduct regular checks on First Aid kits, Eye Wash stations, Spill Kits, and Defibrillators, updating registers as necessary.
  • Prepare and deliver regular Toolbox talks and inductions.
  • Enhance the Training and Competency matrix for all staff members.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation.
  • Experience in implementing ISO 45001 standards.
  • Proactive and motivated team player with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Management experience in a relevant field.
  • Knowledge of chemical safety and fire safety protocols.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and possess strong organizational skills.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Membership in IOSH as a Technical member or higher.
  • Experience in risk assessment.
  • Internal auditing experience.
  • Ability to facilitate and drive change effectively.
