About the role
Reporting directly to the Head of Manufacturing, the H&S Manager will be responsible for providing direction, leadership, advice and delivering on site activities relating to H&S management in collaboration with the site Management Team. The H&S Manager will ensure the development and promotion of a best-in-class safety culture on site through the implementation of the company H&S strategy in conjunction with the wider business H&S team, the site management team and all our employees.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure that all H&S policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
* Ensure the company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
* Ensure the completion and regular review and updates of risk assessments, method statements, safe operating procedures and COSHH assessments.
* Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements/corrective actions are implemented.
* Ensure that safety inspections are carried out daily on housekeeping, the safe storage of chemicals, REACH, LOLER, wearing and use of PPE.
* Ensure all employees are aware of fire safety, adequate number of fire wardens are in place and trained accordingly.
* Undertake and document regular fire alarm testing and perform site evacuation drills.
* Establish a full programme of documented H & S inspections, audits, checks and implement a structured programme of H&S training liaising with the Regional Training & Development Manager.
* Liaise with external H&S consultants in the provision of training programs and services.
* Keep up to date with all aspects of health, safety and welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.
* Chair, formulate and distribute minutes for the health and safety committee meetings.
* Provide regular reports to the senior management team on relevant H&S activities including safety concerns, near misses, accidents and progress with NC close out
* Actively participate in corrective actions from concerns or internal audits.
* Organize relevant occupational H &S surveys – Styrene, dust, noise, light, chemical substances and close remedial work on corrective actions.
* Ensure First Aid and Fire Warden refresher training is carried out within the set time period.
* Organize Health Surveillance for all production staff on a bi-yearly basis.
* Perform regular checks on First Aid kits, Eye Wash stations, Spill Kits, Defibrillator, and update registers accordingly.
* Prepare and undertake regular Toolbox talks and inductions.
* Devise and improve the Training and Competency matrix for all staff.
Your Qualifications and Experience:
* NEBOSH- National general certificate
* Proven understanding of Health and Safety legislation
* Experience in working to and implementing ISO 45001
* Proactive, effective, and motivated team player who can demonstrate a strong capability of engaging with the workforce and be able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
* Management experience
* Chemical safety and Fire Safety
* Have excellent IT Skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong organisational skills
Desirable
* Risk Assessment experience
* Internal Auditor
* Ability to enable and drive change
