Position Overview

This role is ideal for a Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist looking to enhance their expertise in areas such as dysfluency, deafness, specific speech sound disorders, or autism. We offer the flexibility to tailor your caseload to focus on your preferred specialism, with opportunities to work in community clinics and schools, as well as participate in our advice sessions for preschoolers.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver services in clinics, focusing on children with communication disorders.
  • Conduct assessments, diagnoses, and therapeutic interventions for children with developmental language disorders and specific speech disorders.
  • Provide training to colleagues to enhance their skills in supporting communication development.
  • Organize and prioritize your workload effectively, including that of assistant staff, while implementing appropriate caseload management strategies.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills, including observation, listening, and empathy, to address the unique needs of schools, staff, and pupils.

Starting Your Journey with NELFT

We emphasize the importance of a thorough welcome and induction for new employees. All new staff will begin their journey on the first Monday of each month, participating in a comprehensive induction program that includes mandatory training, systems training, and equipment allocation. New starters will also have the chance to meet senior management and engage in various sessions focused on health, wellbeing, and key processes.

Probationary Period

This position will include a probationary period, with internal applicants exempt unless currently undergoing probation or employed as bank staff.

Detailed Job Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement specialized intervention plans for children with communication delays and disorders.
  2. Independently manage a caseload of children, making differential diagnoses as necessary.
  3. Provide expert advice and training to parents, caregivers, and team members regarding speech and language management.
  4. Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to ensure cohesive care plans.
  5. Offer feedback and training to families and team members about communication strategies.
  6. Create and deliver training programs and support materials.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Criteria:

  • Recognized Speech and Language Therapy Degree or equivalent.
  • HCPC License to Practice.
  • Experience working with clients with diverse speech, language, and communication needs in various settings.
  • Experience in a multi-agency or multidisciplinary team environment.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Membership in the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Knowledge of early intervention strategies and low-tech AAC.
  • Experience in providing training to educational and health professionals, as well as families.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential Skills:

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competence in formulating care plans with functional goals.
  • Strong clinical reasoning based on evidence-based practice.
