Position Overview

The selected individual will play a pivotal role in advancing the strategic objectives of the Velindre Oncology Academy, aimed at improving the care of individuals impacted by cancer through the provision of dynamic, innovative, and pertinent educational programs. This initiative is designed to cultivate knowledgeable and proficient health professionals who stay informed about the swift advancements in Oncology.

Collaboration with the Academy team will be essential in the teaching and execution of our post-registration and postgraduate programs, tailored short courses, and study sessions, both in-person and via digital learning platforms. You will lead, coordinate, and deliver accredited modules, facilitating and enhancing student learning experiences. This role also offers avenues for involvement in clinical practice, scholarship, and research.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will significantly contribute to the Academy's strategic vision. Responsibilities include:

  • Engaging in the teaching and delivery of post-registration and postgraduate courses, customized short courses, and study days through various formats.
  • Leading and coordinating validated modules to support and facilitate student learning.
  • Developing and overseeing educational modules.

Welsh language proficiency is preferred for this position; however, applications are welcome from both Welsh and English speakers.

Communication & Relationship Skills

  • Utilize effective communication skills to empower teams within Velindre Cancer Centre to consolidate their experiential learning and formal development.
  • Collaborate with various staff groups to foster inter-professional education and learning.
  • Establish and maintain connections with local Higher and Further Education institutions to influence the planning and delivery of relevant pre/post-qualification courses.
  • Promote a collaborative team approach to education and development.
  • Encourage best practices and liaise with local, national, and international education and training strategy groups.
  • Participate actively in Trust initiatives as part of the training team.

Educational Responsibilities

Design and deliver targeted teaching sessions and study days in both classroom and e-learning environments, employing a variety of teaching strategies tailored to the learners' levels and topics. Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the development of educational offerings within the Academy.
  • Engaging in peer review of teaching, providing and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Evaluating teaching and learning activities to ensure alignment between education and practice.
  • Providing academic leadership and support for course and curriculum development.
  • Marking assignments and assessments promptly.
  • Contributing to quality assurance processes within the Academy.
  • Mentoring junior staff to enhance their teaching and assessment skills.

Research Engagement

Actively participate in scholarly activities, research, and publication efforts, and present at local, national, and international conferences. Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the evaluation of educational projects within the Academy.
  • Influencing best practices on a broader scale through participation in relevant networks.
  • Disseminating effective practices in education and development.

Clinical Development

Maintain and enhance personal clinical expertise and professional development in accordance with relevant professional standards. Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing a role linked to a specific area of clinical practice.
  • Promoting evidence-based practice and leading Trust-wide initiatives.
  • Conducting training needs analyses for the clinical workforce.
  • Incorporating national policies into local education and training practices.

Professional Development

Engage in continuous professional development through conferences and seminars to stay updated in areas of expertise. Responsibilities include:

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • Registered Health Care Professional
  • MSc/MA in a relevant field.
  • Experience in teaching across various settings.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and current health/education policies.
  • Understanding of cancer care.

Desirable

  • Post-graduate teaching qualification.

Experience

  • Post-registration experience in a relevant clinical environment.
