About the Risk and Intelligence Service (RIS)

The Risk and Intelligence Service (RIS) plays a pivotal role in HMRC's compliance and enforcement initiatives. The Intelligence team within RIS focuses on enhancing the understanding of organized crime and serious fraud that affects HMRC. Our mission is to produce high-quality intelligence outputs that inform decision-making and compliance actions to maximize our effectiveness.

Our approach includes:

  • Gathering, analyzing, and utilizing intelligence to pinpoint significant threats to HMRC and inform operational strategies.
  • Providing intelligence and real-time operational support to HMRC teams, law enforcement agencies, and international partners to amplify their effectiveness.
  • Creating and implementing impactful interventions to prevent and disrupt serious non-compliance.
  • Collaborating with national and international stakeholders to enhance our collective capabilities.

This position offers the chance to join the Police Systems Hub, working in close collaboration with HMRC colleagues and law enforcement agencies.

Role Responsibilities

The Police Systems Hub is responsible for creating and updating records in police systems for HMRC investigations and prosecutions. We share vital intelligence to assist HMRC teams in advancing their inquiries.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Engaging with our clients to comprehend their requirements and expectations, delivering a service that balances quality with cost-effectiveness.
  • Managing the workflow into team mailboxes, identifying urgent matters, and allocating tasks to ensure compliance with deadlines.
  • Ensuring the quality of the team's output through a structured quality assurance framework, providing constructive feedback.
  • Offering technical guidance and support to colleagues and partners, while demonstrating visible leadership.
  • Fostering a culture of continuous improvement by identifying service-related issues, reporting them, and proposing practical solutions.

Training and Development

We prioritize potential in our recruitment process and provide a comprehensive 12-month training program designed to equip you with the necessary skills and experience for success.

Completion of the College of Policing's training is mandatory for this role. You may be required to attend training sessions at the College of Policing, which could involve overnight stays for up to one week.

Security Clearance

National Security Vetting (NSV) at Security Check and Non-Police Persons Vetting level 3 (NPPV3) is essential for this role.

Successful candidates will receive a conditional job offer based on their ability to obtain both NSV at Security Check clearance level and NPPV3. Failure to secure the necessary security vetting will result in the withdrawal of the job offer, as it is a requirement for this position.

Employee Benefits

In addition to a salary of £28,341, HMRC contributes £7,652 towards your membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.

HMRC offers both Flexible and Hybrid Working policies, enabling you to balance your professional and personal commitments. We welcome applications from individuals seeking flexible arrangements and will consider requests where feasible, taking into account operational and customer service needs.

We provide a generous leave allowance, starting at 25 days and increasing by one day for each year of qualifying service, up to a maximum of 30 days.
