Job Description
We are inviting applications for a Rail Engineering Advanced Technician Apprenticeship in our Rail Systems Team. As a member of our team, you will assist in delivering Rail Systems design services across a wide range of projects. You will be provided with full support to achieve a Level 4 qualification (Rail Engineering) on a day release basis and create a solid foundation for a successful and satisfying career.
The Apprenticeship Programme
The duration of the academic course is 4 years. The cost of the Apprenticeship is paid by Ramboll through the Apprenticeship Levy. You will be awarded the following qualifications:
- Level 4 Rail Engineering Apprenticeship
- On completion of the apprenticeship, you will have satisfied the requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician by the relevant Professional Engineering Institutions.
Key Responsibilities
As a Rail Engineering Advanced Technician Apprentice, your key tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Applying scientific, technical, and engineering principles to railway signalling design, maintenance, and construction, both in the UK and overseas
- Understanding safe and professional working practices, regulations, and risk management
- Designing and developing engineering solutions, considering failure modes and causes
- Effectively delivering engineering projects, utilizing project management principles
- Understanding the commercial aspects and evolution of the railway industry
- Gaining knowledge of the railway system and your role within it
- Working towards gaining an IRSE Signalling Designer's licence while being mentored by experienced signalling design engineers
- Performing complex analysis using computer modelling; making, reading, and interpreting technical material
- Developing digital tools and approaches to leverage these opportunities
- Translating complex engineering concepts and solutions into presentations, reports, sketches, drawings, and infographics that communicate their essence and demonstrate their value to our clients and key stakeholders
- Recognizing the importance of 3rd party requirements and operational interfaces
- Learning to identify potential health & safety, design, sustainability, and commercial risks on our projects and contributing towards mitigating them
- Monitoring the implementation of design throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial concepts to construction and operation
- Contributing to the development of company procedures by taking an active role in task groups
- Proactively pursuing continuous professional development, including working towards corporate membership and/or chartership with a recognized institution
- You will be working alongside the rest of the Transport team, and teams of all disciplines nationally and internationally across the Ramboll Group to deliver our projects
- Promoting the Ramboll brand, its core values, and our strategy as The Partner for Sustainable Change
- Applying and promoting policies relating to health and safety, quality, and the Environment
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Achieved or be on track to achieve 3 A Levels or equivalent, including maths at grade C or higher
- Must have 5 GCSE's - Maths and English at Grade 4 (C) or higher
- A keen interest in the Built Environment
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team
- Strong technology skills
- CAD knowledge and/or experience is desirable but not essential
