Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to oversee the Chief Engineer's office within Lockheed Martin's significant satellite initiatives in the UK. This role is pivotal in addressing customer demands for innovative, cost-effective solutions delivered within tight timelines. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in steering the engineering team's strategies to fulfill ambitious cost and schedule objectives through inventive technical approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive technical decision-making processes and enhance technical practices across various engineering disciplines.
  • Establish and lead the UK Design Authority team.
  • Build and maintain robust relationships with customers.
  • Manage a diverse technical workforce.
  • Delegate tasks to engineering teams and monitor their progress.
  • Conduct technical reviews and ensure adherence to engineering baselines and configuration management.
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges proactively to minimize impacts on schedule and budget.
  • Plan strategically for both short and long-term objectives, integrating them within established timelines.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to engineering team members.
  • Promote corporate innovation and initiatives for process enhancement.
  • Contribute to Lockheed Martin's vision for sustained growth in the UK.
  • Oversee technical coordination and resource allocation necessary for issue evaluation and resolution.
  • Set standards across space and ground segments to ensure a balanced delivery of technical, cost, schedule, and risk considerations.

Required Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex technology programs, particularly in the space sector.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to achieve technical and performance objectives.
  • Proven ability to establish and nurture relationships with senior engineering leaders and external stakeholders.
  • Strong skills in risk management and problem-solving, with a focus on root cause analysis.
  • Business acumen in shaping proposals and developing new offerings.
  • Ability to influence change and foster collaboration across multiple organizations.
  • Experience in the development, integration, and testing of space systems.
  • Proven capability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing engineering talent.
  • Must be a UK Citizen and able to achieve necessary security clearances.

  • Successful track record in supporting proposals and securing new business.
