Position Overview

Lockheed Martin is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee critical space programmes in the UK. This permanent role is pivotal in driving innovative engineering solutions to meet the evolving demands of satellite technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directing technical decision-making and fostering improvements across various engineering disciplines.
  • Establishing and leading the UK Design Authority team.
  • Building and maintaining robust relationships with customers and stakeholders.
  • Leading a diverse team of engineers and delegating tasks effectively.
  • Conducting technical reviews and ensuring adherence to engineering baselines and configuration management.
  • Identifying and resolving technical challenges to mitigate impacts on schedules and budgets.
  • Planning strategically for both short-term and long-term objectives, ensuring integration within established timelines.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to engineering team members.
  • Championing innovation and process enhancements within the organization.
  • Contributing to the strategic vision for sustainable growth in the UK.
  • Coordinating technical resources to address and resolve engineering issues.
  • Setting standards for technical, cost, schedule, and risk management across projects.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (BS, MS, or PhD) in engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex space-related technology programmes.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to achieve performance and quality objectives.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with senior engineering leadership and external clients.
  • Strong skills in risk management and problem-solving.
  • Business acumen in shaping proposals and securing new business opportunities.
  • Experience in developing and mentoring technical talent.
  • Eligibility for National Security Vetting at Security Check (SC) clearance level.

Desired Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of space subsystem technologies and supplier management.
  • Experience in spacecraft design and management of multiple hardware subsystems.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes and collaboration with subcontract management teams.
  • Experience in production environments and applying modern digital practices across engineering domains.
