Job Summary

Dar, a leading international multidisciplinary consulting organization, is seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to fill the role of Head of the Transportation Unit in its London design office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the transportation department's workload of mainly international projects, primarily in the Middle East and Africa.
  • Prepare commercial bid proposals and tenders, ensuring the company's interests are represented.
  • Act as project manager for projects led by the department, or coordinate the transportation team's inputs for projects led by other disciplines.
  • Maintain liaison and provide technical support to other departments, area offices, and project sites as required.
  • Interact with client representatives through meetings and presentations to represent the company's interests.
  • Ensure the company's quality assurance system is applied at all times.
  • Monitor work and outputs produced by the transportation team and external specialized sub-contractors.
  • Coordinate project details with senior directors.
  • Oversee deliverables and ensure they are submitted on time, on budget, and to the highest quality.
  • Undertake day-to-day operations of the department, including allocating resources, approving leave, signing off expenses, approving travel, and so forth.
  • Occasionally participate in projects as a technical expert.
Requirements
  • 3-year degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of experience and education; MSc or higher is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects and resources, people.
  • Experience of working in different operational environments, especially in less-developed and emerging nations.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, and good report writing abilities. Knowledge of a second language would be a bonus.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
