Job Summary

Dar, a leading international consulting organization, is seeking a seasoned professional to fill the role of Head of Transportation Unit. This position will be based in our London design office, with opportunities for travel and work outside the UK.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the transportation department's workload, focusing on international projects in the Middle East and Africa.
  • Develop and prepare commercial bid proposals and tenders.
  • Act as project manager for projects led by the department, or coordinate team inputs for projects led by other disciplines.
  • Maintain liaison and provide technical support to other departments, area offices, and project sites.
  • Represent the company's interests through meetings and presentations with client representatives.
  • Ensure the company's Quality Assurance system is applied consistently.
  • Monitor work and outputs produced by the transportation team and external sub-contractors.
  • Coordinate project details with senior directors.
  • Oversee deliverables, ensuring they are submitted on time, on budget, and to the highest quality.
  • Manage day-to-day department operations, including resource allocation, leave approval, expense signing, travel approval, and more.
  • Occasionally participate in projects as a technical expert.
Requirements
  • 3-year degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of experience and education; an MSc or higher is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects and resources, as well as people.
  • Experience working in different operational environments, especially in less-developed and emerging nations.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with good report writing abilities; knowledge of a second language is a bonus.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
