Client Overview
Our client is a prominent consolidator of ambient grocery items, possessing extensive warehousing and distribution capabilities.
The organization consolidates full loads from its clientele, which includes food manufacturers and importers, and dispatches across the UK on a daily basis to major supermarkets, cash and carry outlets, and food service clients. The core consolidation operation is complemented by E-fulfilment, repacking, and a Palletline operation.
Key Responsibilities
The role encompasses five primary areas of responsibility:
*Spearheading the formulation and execution of a strategic plan aimed at significantly enhancing the Transport function over the next five years, with a strong emphasis on safety.
*Overseeing, managing, and refining existing technologies to foster data-driven decision-making within the transport sector.
*Evaluating the effectiveness of management teams and cultivating the appropriate leadership groups to both improve current operations and guide future development.
*Managing key suppliers and industry organizations while establishing relationships across the sector, including with major clients.
*Directing the financial oversight of the transport division, ensuring that projects align with their designated budgets and negotiating rates with carriers and service providers.
*Assuming full accountability for Health & Safety, Environmental, and welfare standards within Transport, ensuring compliance among yourself, your teams, and colleagues.
*Creating annual Transport plans and budgets, along with managing financial control analysis, evaluation, and reporting.
*Formulating and leading the execution of a backhaul strategy to maximize opportunities throughout the supply chain.
*Guiding all internal stakeholders within the Transport department to uphold the highest standards in accordance with customer requirements and relevant legislation/audits such as HACCP and BRCGS.
*Managing the entire fleet of company vehicles, including procurement and scheduling teams.
*Ensuring that the Transport Operation adheres to quality and legislative standards, while establishing and agreeing upon targets and KPIs in alignment with corporate strategy.
Candidate Profile
*Extensive experience within a National FMCG organization.
*Financially savvy with commercial management expertise and a proven track record of managing and surpassing budgetary expectations.
*Experience in change management and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
*Possession of an International & National Certificate in Professional Competence (CPC).
*Membership in the Institute of Logistics or Freight Transport Association.
*Operational experience across multiple sites.
*Ability to engage with cross-functional teams (e.g., Warehouse Director, Commercial Director, Finance Director, Head of HR) to ensure all relevant parties are informed and transitions are managed effectively.
*Solid understanding of fleet procurement processes and technologies impacting Transport, including modeling, planning, and telematics systems (e.g., SAP, Microlise, BI, and Contrado).
