Role Description

We are excited to present an opportunity to become part of the Defence Business Services (DBS), Armed Forces and Veterans Services (AFVS), Development & Change (DevChg) DevOps Team. You will oversee a small DevOps team of Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) specialists, responsible for development and support tasks related to a significant Management Information (MI) reporting and Data services initiative within the MoD.

DBS AFVS is collaborating with commercial partners to implement a major transformation project aimed at establishing a more robust and integrated IT/infrastructure using the latest Oracle Analytical and Data Integration technologies, transitioning to Cloud-based services to enhance customer experience.

As the successful candidate, you will bring senior DevOps engineering expertise and leadership to a small team of data modelers and Oracle Analytics Server (OAS) specialists, enhancing a major reporting service within the MoD. You will provide OAS technical support, maintenance, and development for a large enterprise data warehouse reporting application. You will be part of a broader group responsible for the DevChg of IT capabilities utilized by AFVS.

Your primary responsibility will be to lead the complete software delivery lifecycle of change and incident resolution for the MI Reporting Platform Database, currently utilizing OAS, with a DevOps and agile delivery-focused team.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship and practical assistance to team members on all aspects of the OAS product and related technical issues.
  • Deliver operational support for a large enterprise reporting application, adhering to an ITIL-aligned service management framework.
  • Efficiently respond to service tickets raised as part of a resolver team, ensuring effective management of the ticket workload.
  • Implement service improvements with thoroughly documented responses to new business requirements, problem remediation, and enhancement activities.
  • Develop comprehensive software capabilities (OAS) with complete testing and deployment, utilizing agile methodologies.
  • Represent and advocate for the AFVS MI & Data business area in technical discussions with contractors, product vendors, and other MOD departments.
  • Collaborate closely with contractor resources and technical teams to ensure coherent and effective solutions are developed and support routine monitoring activities.
  • Create, maintain, and review technical design documentation for the reporting platform, applying appropriate standards to ensure high service quality.

Candidate Profile:

To excel in this role, you should be an intellectually agile, proactive, and self-motivated team player. A strong communicator with excellent problem-solving abilities, you should be capable of presenting data modeling and business data usage in a manner that is comprehensible to both technical and non-technical audiences.

An understanding of data storage and archival technologies, including major relational database management systems, is desirable, as is familiarity with the Oracle Enterprise Business Suite, including HR and payroll modules.

  • Service Support Level 4: Expert - Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of service support.
  • Systems Integration Level 3: Practitioner - Define the integration build and coordinate build activities across systems.
  • User Focus Level 3: Practitioner - Collaborate with user researchers and represent users internally, championing user research to focus on all users.
  • Systems Design Level 3: Practitioner - Design systems characterized by medium levels of risk, impact, and complexity, reviewing designs to ensure appropriate technology selection and resource efficiency.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working within Agile Teams.
  • Familiarity with Oracle EBS HR/Payroll or equivalent ERP products.
  • ITIL experience and/or certification.
