About the Role

Vallum Associates is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pricing Director to lead and grow our current Pricing function. This is a fantastic opportunity for a seasoned professional to take ownership of the end-to-end pricing process and drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pricing Process Ownership: Take charge of the pricing process, including policy, tool suite, inflation studies, control processes, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with portfolio management, claims, and reserving.
  • Actuarial Resourcing: Manage actuarial resources to support the underwriting referrals workflow, ensuring timely delivery of standard and bespoke pricing models.
  • Deal Pricing and Rate Management: Provide leadership on deal pricing, rate, price adequacy, binder deep dives, and horizon scanning as required.
  • Model Review and Sign-off: Challenge, review, and sign-off loss and pricing models, defending the loss pick to senior management and capital providers as needed.
  • Exposure Management: Oversee and enhance the exposure management process to ensure catastrophe risk is understood, managed in line with agreed risk appetite, and reflected in decision-making.
  • Account Performance and Market Monitoring: Direct account performance and market conditions monitoring, sharing insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Innovation and Data Analysis: Explore novel data sources, alternative analytical tools, and techniques to further innovate on internal approaches.
Requirements
  • Strong Stakeholder Management: Develop and maintain productive relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Credibly represent Pricing in a range of interactions internally and externally.
  • Proven Management Experience: Negotiate, prioritize, delegate, and build and optimize control processes.
  • Technical Leadership and Coaching: Provide technical leadership, challenge the business, and coach for development and manage performance of the analyst team.
  • Commercial Mindset and Integrity: Embodies and fosters a commercial mindset, culture of integrity, accountability, high-performance, and teamwork.
  • Pricing Experience and Qualifications: Essential pricing experience and qualified member of the Institute of Actuaries or equivalent.
  • Programming Skills: Experience in and comfortable using programming languages such as SQL, Python, and VBA.
