Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged to join the UCLH Theatres and Anaesthesia team as a Lead Recovery Specialist and Clinical Educator for the Recovery and Day Surgery Unit (DSU).

Your responsibilities will encompass both the role of a Clinical Educator in Recovery and DSU, as well as that of a Lead Recovery Specialist, with a balanced allocation of time dedicated to each function.

As a Clinical Educator and Lead Recovery Specialist, you are expected to possess extensive knowledge and experience in perioperative practices, along with a profound understanding of peri-anaesthesia care.

To fulfill this role, you must be a registered Operating Department Practitioner with the Health Professions Council (HCPC) or a registered Nurse with the NMC, possessing relevant experience and qualifications in the Recovery environment.

Your role will involve effective collaboration with the theatres education team, providing essential peri-operative learning and development support to both staff and students within the department. Strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal abilities, and experience in supervising a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of patient care and learner supervision across diverse cases are essential.

As a senior professional in Recovery, you will be responsible for delivering specialized care to patients in the immediate post-operative phase while demonstrating leadership and mentorship within the clinical setting.

Main Responsibilities

1. Mentor and develop Band 5 and 6 Theatre Practitioners, as well as Band 2 and 3 Theatre Support/Circulating Assistants (TSA/TCA), through clinical practice facilitation and the promotion of relevant educational pathways, particularly focusing on the Recovery and DSU staff groups.

2. Facilitate the acquisition of essential skills, knowledge, and competencies for learners and their mentors in designated areas within the organization.

3. Serve as an expert Recovery Specialist and assume leadership roles in the clinical environment as required.

4. Support the training and development initiatives established by the Division to ensure that staff members reach their full potential.

5. Optimize the use of clinical and academic resources, implementing best practices in assessment and supervision of learners in the clinical setting.

6. Ensure the effective utilization of electronic rotas and patient records.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • Registration with the Health Professions Council as an ODP or as a registered Nurse with the NMC.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Extensive experience in providing care within a perioperative environment.
  • A recognized qualification and experience in supporting learners in the perioperative context.
  • A solid understanding and compliance with CQC Standards.
