London, Greater London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We invite you to become a vital member of our esteemed Clinical Education Specialist Nurse team within the Neonatal Unit at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. Our facility is a leading tertiary referral center, equipped with a comprehensive range of neonatal care services, including intensive care, high dependency, and special care units. We are dedicated to providing exceptional care for infants with a variety of complex medical conditions.

The Clinical Education Specialist Nurses play a crucial role in the professional development of both pre-registration and post-registration nursing students. The selected candidate will oversee the organization and execution of clinical placements and educational workshops for nursing staff and students alike.

We have designed a specialized developmental program for newly qualified Band 5 nurses, offering tailored theoretical and practical support to facilitate their transition into independent practitioners. The Clinical Education Specialist Nurse team is instrumental in this initiative, which has significantly enhanced the retention rates of our Band 5 nursing staff.

Additional responsibilities of this role include engaging in recruitment efforts, conducting resuscitation training, implementing new medical technologies, and providing ongoing educational updates.

It is expected that you will maintain your advanced clinical competencies by participating in scheduled shifts on the neonatal unit, ensuring that you deliver and instruct on the latest evidence-based practices.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include:

  • Developing and coordinating educational programs within the specialty.
  • Leading and taking ongoing responsibility for the professional development of all nursing personnel in your area of expertise.
  • Providing leadership and inspiration to establish clinical practices that are grounded in research and evidence, contributing to standard setting and regular audits in alignment with the Trust's commitment to Clinical Governance.
  • Monitoring and evaluating clinical and professional care standards, reporting on performance, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

About Us

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust encompasses several of the UK's most renowned hospitals, along with community services, all dedicated to delivering high-quality care, clinical excellence, and innovative research.

Our neonatal team is large and supportive, committed to maintaining high standards of care. We believe that teamwork across all disciplines is essential, as evidenced by the positive outcomes for the infants in our care.

We actively seek to cultivate and support our staff in achieving their professional aspirations. As a member of the Clinical Education Specialist Nurse team, you will play a key role in facilitating this development.

We offer in-house Quality Improvement System modules that will enhance your teaching skills and allow you to engage in curriculum development and strategic planning throughout the year.
