Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a seasoned Tissue Viability Nurse (TVN) to take the lead of the TVN team at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. This role is ideal for a proactive and enthusiastic healthcare professional dedicated to providing exemplary care and showcasing compassionate leadership.
The selected candidate will offer professional and clinical guidance in all facets of Tissue Viability through their clinical proficiency. It is anticipated that the applicant will possess an innovative mindset towards working in the Tissue Viability domain and will also spearhead educational initiatives and training for hospital staff and their team.
Moreover, the successful candidate will have the autonomy and flexibility to initiate and enhance practices within a clinical governance framework. Comprehensive orientation and support will be provided to enable them to excel in their roles, along with encouragement to attend relevant study days and conferences.

The individual will operate in an advanced clinical capacity, leading and evolving nursing practices within the specialty at a master's level. The post holder is expected to demonstrate a higher level of practice competency.
They must exhibit a thorough understanding of tissue viability and possess the capability to coordinate pertinent clinical matters across the Trust, representing those perspectives both internally and externally as necessary.
The post holder will be an integral member of the relevant service group/groups, advocating for nursing issues accordingly. To develop and deliver specialized advice and support to patients requiring expert wound care, this position will maintain a robust clinical component.
They will implement and lead nurse-led services, fostering a culture of change in alignment with the national health service agenda concerning pressure ulcer prevention and management, as well as complex wound care.
Participation in NCL and ICB projects will be expected to enhance and provide seamless care across the sector.
The post holder will ensure adherence to governance processes in all aspects of care related to Tissue Viability.

Education & Professional Qualifications
Essential
- First level registration
- BSc in a relevant field
- Wound management and/or leg ulcer modules.
Desirable
- Mentorship/preceptorship or equivalent teaching qualification
Experience
Essential
- 5 years of post-registration experience
- 18 months at band 6 in tissue viability or an acute care-related specialty
- Experience in managing complex wounds
- Competence in managing leg ulcers, including compression bandaging
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings
- Experience in multidisciplinary team working
- Experience in managing a staff team
- Experience in implementing change in a clinical environment
Skills and Aptitudes
Essential
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with a keen attention to detail
- Knowledge of current advancements in wound care, pressure ulcers, and leg ulcer management
- An understanding of quality, clinical risk, clinical governance, national benchmarks, and other professional issues
