Position Overview

Role: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire

Salary: £83 - £100 per day

Contract Type: Full-Time

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students facing complex learning challenges? GSL Education is currently seeking committed SEMH Teaching Assistants to support students in an Alternative Provision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalized support and interventions to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, both within the classroom and in other educational settings.
  • Provide one-on-one assistance to children and young individuals experiencing social, emotional, and mental health challenges, along with related behavioral issues.
  • Utilize effective strategies to promote positive behavior management and to de-escalate potentially challenging situations.
  • Collaborate with the SENCO and educational leaders to ensure that the objectives outlined in Education Health Care Plans are achieved.
  • Assist students with SEMH needs in engaging with the curriculum and completing their academic assignments.
  • Work in close partnership with classroom educators, the SENCO, and other relevant personnel to coordinate support and interventions tailored to students' needs.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance your skills and knowledge in supporting students with SEMH requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility to work in the UK is essential.
  • A minimum of 6 months experience working with students with SEMH needs in an educational or similar environment is required. Experience gained through university placements or volunteer work will be considered.
  • A solid understanding of the challenges associated with SEMH and effective strategies for intervention and support.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external agencies, including counselors and mental health professionals.
    • An Enhanced DBS registered with the update service or a willingness to apply for a new one through GSL Education.
