Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant - Support Specialist

Job Summary:

GSL Education is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support and interventions to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, both in and out of the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for children and young people with SEMH needs, and associated behavioural needs.
  • Implement strategies to support positive behaviour management and de-escalate challenging situations.
  • Liaise with the SENCO and other school leaders to follow Education Health Care Plan objectives to ensure outcomes are met.
  • Assist students with SEMH needs in accessing the curriculum and completing academic tasks.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers, SENCO, and other relevant staff to coordinate support and interventions for students.
  • Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEMH needs.

Requirements:

  • Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting for at least 6 months.
  • Understanding of SEMH-related challenges and appropriate strategies for intervention and support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff members and outside agencies, such as counsellors and mental health professionals.
  • Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
