Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team at GSL Education. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with complex learning difficulties and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support and interventions to students with SEMH needs, both in and out of the classroom.
- Offer 1:1 support for children and young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs, and associated behavioural needs.
- Implement strategies to support positive behaviour management and de-escalate challenging situations.
- Liaise with the SENCO and other school leaders to follow Education Health Care Plan objectives to ensure outcomes are met.
- Assist students with SEMH needs in accessing the curriculum and completing academic tasks.
- Work closely with classroom teachers, SENCO, and other relevant staff to coordinate support and interventions for students.
- Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEMH needs.
Requirements:
- Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
- Experience working with students with SEMH needs in a school or similar setting for at least 6 months.
- Understanding of SEMH-related challenges and appropriate strategies for intervention and support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff members and outside agencies, such as counsellors and mental health professionals.
- An Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
