Position Overview

The London Borough of Sutton is on the lookout for a highly skilled individual to assume the role of Senior Finance Business Partner within its collaborative finance service with Kingston Council. This position is dedicated solely to Sutton Council, concentrating on the Adults Social Care division within the People Services directorate.

This pivotal role assists the Strategic Finance Business Partner (Adults Social Care) by offering essential support to service areas and their budget managers. The primary emphasis will be on revenue, although aspects of the capital program may also be included in the responsibilities. The successful applicant will be accountable for:

  • Providing guidance to budget managers to facilitate essential financial processes and operations, including planning, budgeting, financial oversight, and year-end activities.
  • Assisting budget managers in meeting their financial obligations.
  • Acting as a supportive advisor to budget managers to ensure that forecasts and financial modeling are sound and credible.
  • Overseeing the financial administration of the Better Care Fund.
  • Analyzing service databases (such as Mosaic) to generate valuable insights and analyses that inform financial operations.
  • Aiding in the preparation of statutory returns or responding to ad hoc information requests.
About the Financial Planning Team

This role is part of the Financial Planning and Business Partnering team dedicated to Sutton Council within the shared finance service. The team comprises 17 roles that collectively deliver revenue and capital financial planning and business partnering services.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Proven experience in delivering high-quality business partner support to budget managers within a large organization.
  • A relevant professional qualification (e.g., CIPFA, CIMA, MBA, etc.) or equivalent demonstrable experience at a comparable level.
  • Experience in a customer-centric environment, achieving successful outcomes in service delivery that meets client needs.
  • Strong numerical and analytical capabilities, with the ability to provide detailed and accurate information promptly and with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to discuss, analyze, and present financial concepts and processes in various formats.

It is preferred that candidates have experience supporting adults social care services within a local authority context.
