Position Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a skilled Nurse to join our Endoscopy team as a Band 6 Junior Nurse Leader.

The successful candidate will assist the Band 7 in overseeing the operations of the Endoscopy Unit, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality and efficient service.

This role is ideal for a seasoned endoscopy nurse.

As part of our welcoming and dynamic team, you will work at the Kidderminster Treatment Centre, where we conduct a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including pre-assessment clinics. Our state-of-the-art endoscopy unit features five newly refurbished rooms, private patient pods, and a discharge lounge.

Main Responsibilities

The primary duties include:

  • Adhering to the NMC Code and relevant professional standards to deliver a comprehensive and effective Endoscopy service to the community.
  • Participating in the resolution of complaints in line with Trust policy.
  • Assisting in evaluating staffing needs and reporting any issues to the appropriate management.
  • Delivering high-quality nursing care while engaging in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients within the Endoscopy setting.
  • Providing compassionate, patient-centered care, treating patients, their families, and caregivers with dignity and respect.
  • Supporting the Endoscopy Pre-Assessment team.
  • Participating in mentorship programs and serving as a role model for student nurses and junior staff.
  • Taking responsibility for enhancing and maintaining your clinical knowledge and skills in accordance with NMC requirements, while keeping a professional portfolio that reflects your practice.

  • Working across the county as required by the Directorate/Service.

Risk Assessment

This position involves manual handling and exposure to bodily fluids and chemicals. It may also include some VDU work, with potential exposure to violence and aggression.

  • Acting as a Named Nurse, maintaining accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care programs within a team nursing framework.
  • Promoting a patient-focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.
  • Educating patients and their caregivers as needed.
  • Providing information to enable patients to make informed choices about healthier lifestyles.
  • Completing patient documentation accurately.
  • Collaborating with the Departmental Manager to establish and monitor care protocols.
  • Maintaining effective communication with patients, families, and staff.
  • Supporting equality, diversity, and rights at all times.
  • Safeguarding vulnerable adults in accordance with established policies.
  • Ensuring patient safety by delegating care to appropriately skilled nurses and reporting any incidents to the Departmental Manager.
  • Professional Development and Education Responsibilities
  • Enhancing personal teaching skills and participating in staff and student education programs.
  • Creating a conducive learning environment for staff and facilitating the supervision and teaching of less experienced personnel.
  • Attending Trust and local orientation and mandatory training sessions.
  • Maintaining and developing personal knowledge, clinical skills, and professional awareness in line with PREP requirements.
  • Contributing to annual appraisals and managing personal development programs.
  • Supporting the Departmental Manager in developing nursing practice guidelines and policies.
  • Training and developing junior staff, student nurses, and healthcare assistants to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Maintaining accurate training records for all departmental staff.
  • Organizing and providing training programs based on departmental needs.
  • Professional and Clinical Leadership Responsibilities
  • Deputizing for the Departmental Manager and liaising with multidisciplinary team members to ensure effective patient care delivery.
  • Leading and coordinating departmental activities in the absence of the Departmental Manager.
  • Disseminating information to all staff through team briefs and unit meetings.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the organization and the nursing profession.
  • Maintaining NMC registration and ensuring compliance with the NMC code of conduct.
  • Promoting health education within the clinical area and advising patients and families on health promotion issues.
  • Ensuring high standards of care are maintained and addressing issues as necessary.
  • Preparing duty rosters to ensure effective staffing coverage.
  • Monitoring the safe and effective use of equipment and supplies.
  • Managing departmental budgets effectively.
  • Discussing nursing issues with the Departmental Manager.
  • Supporting the Departmental Manager in developing the Endoscopy Service.
  • Participating in workforce development and staff selection processes.
  • Assisting in managing staff absence in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Creating an induction program for new staff to ensure competency in all aspects of endoscopy nursing.
  • Maintaining custody and administration of all medications per Trust policy.
  • Facilitating staff meetings and team briefs.
  • Orienting staff to the department and developing an orientation plan.
  • Assisting in investigating complaints and drafting responses as needed.
  • Ordering stock and non-stock consumables.
  • Attending meetings in the absence of the Departmental Manager.
