Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our Endoscopy team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, along with pre-assessment clinics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the NMC Code and relevant professional guidelines to provide a comprehensive and efficient Endoscopy service.
  • Participate in the management of patient complaints in line with Trust policy.
  • Assist in evaluating staffing needs and communicate any issues to the appropriate management.
  • Deliver high-quality nursing care while assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care requirements for patients within the Endoscopy unit.
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care, treating all patients, their families, and caregivers with the dignity and respect they deserve.
  • Support the Endoscopy Pre-Assessment team and services across the region as necessary.
  • Engage in preceptorship programs, serving as a mentor and role model for student nurses and junior staff.
  • Commit to continuous professional development and maintain a professional portfolio demonstrating reflective practice.

Job Duties

  • Work across various sites to support the Endoscopy Directorate and other departments as needed.
  • Rotate through all areas of endoscopy, including admissions, recovery, discharge, pre-assessment, and procedure rooms.
  • Provide specialized nursing care and support to all patients utilizing the Endoscopy service.
  • Act as an endoscopy representative in various settings outside the unit.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective scheduling of patients and procedures.
  • Independently manage the operations of clinics, keeping patients informed about waiting times.
  • Perform a range of complex nursing procedures requiring specialized knowledge and expertise.
  • Contribute to the development of a 7-day service as part of future enhancements.
  • Engage in manual handling tasks and adhere to safety protocols.
  • Maintain a professional appearance when interacting with patients and their families.
  • Participate in the decontamination team, ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of equipment used within the unit.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with a valid NMC PIN.

Essential Qualities

  • Flexibility in work schedule is required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Understanding of Gastroenterology or a willingness to learn.
  • Desirable skills include cannulation, venepuncture, and IV drug administration.
