This opportunity is ideal for an individual looking to advance their career within the Housing sector, leveraging their existing expertise in a collaborative and professional environment. While the role demands a commitment to high standards typical of a legal practice, it also emphasizes a sustainable work-life balance, catering to the regional context.

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be tasked with achieving favorable outcomes through the following:

  • Managing a diverse caseload of social housing tenancy and leasehold disputes, focusing on anti-social behavior and housing management issues, along with more intricate residential leasehold cases;
  • Representing clients in County Court, Magistrates Court (civil jurisdiction), and First-tier Tribunal hearings, including but not limited to:
    • Injunction applications, both on notice and ex parte,
    • Committal hearings, both on notice and post-arrest,
    • Directions and case management hearings,
    • Conducting trials, contingent upon qualifications and experience;
  • Providing comprehensive written and verbal counsel in both litigated and non-litigated scenarios;
  • Engaging with clients, opposing parties, Courts/Tribunals, and third parties to ensure effective file progression;
  • Delivering and overseeing value-added services such as client helpline interactions, legal surgeries, and briefing notes;
  • Assisting the Head of Department, Partners, and other advisors with their cases, while contributing to departmental strategy and objectives;
  • Overseeing, mentoring, and training Solicitors, Caseworkers, and Paralegals to support their professional growth and business goals;
  • Ensuring adherence to internal and external compliance standards, including ISO:9001 quality control and SRA Principles/Code of Conduct;
  • Monitoring and reporting on personal and team financial performance to ensure profitability;
  • Contributing to internal improvement initiatives, innovation, and knowledge sharing;
  • Collaborating with other departments on joint files, projects, and events;
  • Participating in the formulation of the departmental business plan;
  • Fostering positive relationships with clients to enhance the firm's reputation and drive growth;
  • Engaging in business development activities, including training sessions, articles, and submissions to legal directories.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Qualified Solicitor (or CILEX equivalent with civil rights of audience) with a minimum of 3 years PQE;
  • Essential experience in social housing litigation;
  • Proven advocacy experience in Courts or Tribunals, with a willingness to travel;
  • Higher Rights of Audience in Civil Courts is advantageous but not mandatory;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a caseload and meet deadlines while generating fees;
  • Proficient in IT systems, including Word, Outlook, and case management software;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and exhibit self-motivation;
  • Capability to supervise and manage team members effectively;
  • Collaborative spirit and reliability;
