Senior Emergency Duty Social Worker

Position Overview:

This role necessitates that the candidate holds an AMHP qualification.

About the Position:

The successful candidate will receive an annual honorarium of £3000, disbursed monthly for the AMHP responsibilities undertaken.

The Emergency Duty Team is seeking a full-time, dual-qualified Senior Social Work Practitioner, proficient in both Child Safeguarding and Adults AMHP, to deliver essential emergency services outside of regular hours to the community.

This fulfilling position is designated at the Senior Practitioner level, reflecting the expertise, skills, and experience that the applicant will contribute.

The Emergency Duty Team operates under the Adults Service umbrella in Powys, offering an exceptional opportunity for the postholder to enhance a diverse skill set while assisting residents in need or crisis, alongside fulfilling all statutory obligations typically managed by daytime services.

Powys boasts a robust training department, providing numerous hours as part of the employment contract for personal development to maintain registration and AMHP warrant.

Candidate Profile:

  • AMHP qualification and relevant experience.
  • Experience in Child Safeguarding.
  • Proficient ICT skills for administrative tasks and database management.
  • A strong commitment to supporting individuals in need or crisis.
  • A creative mindset for planning interventions when standard daytime resources are unavailable.
  • Active participation in team meetings and the supervisory process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a fixed position on the duty rota (shifts will follow a rolling six-week schedule).
  • Evaluate workload and prioritize referrals based on need and risk assessment.
  • Deliver statutory services for Children and Adults in Powys, including conducting AMHP assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983 and Child Safeguarding responsibilities under S.47 of the Children Act 1989.
  • Provide guidance and support to residents and external organizations.
  • Participate in meetings and daytime responsibilities as required, with allocated hours for such activities during the workweek.
  • Comply with all Codes of Practice while providing an out-of-hours emergency service.

This position mandates an Enhanced DBS Check.
