Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Medical Receptionist. As a key member of our front desk team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to our healthcare professionals.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure an efficient and friendly reception service is provided to patients and visitors.
  • Deal with all general enquiries efficiently and courteously, explaining procedures and making new and follow-up appointments as needed.
  • Using your own judgement and communication skills, ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultations are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring procedures are completed.
  • Book patient appointments, directing them to the appropriate healthcare professional.
  • Take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt delivery.
  • Process tasks raised by doctors.
  • Enter requests for home visits onto the computer system, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and referring to the Duty Doctor as necessary.
  • View internet for messages and deal with them.
  • Print blood forms.
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment, and issue receipts.
  • Accountable for the petty cash.
  • Reconcile card machine.
  • Enter/amend patient information onto the computer as required.
  • Ensure all new patients are registered onto the computer system promptly and accurately.
  • Process samples received from patients following urine protocol.
  • Deal with urgent results for the GPs.
  • Liaise with local hospital as required.
  • Assist other members of the Primary Health Care Trust as required.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications
    • Essential
      • GCSE or equivalent (at least grade C) in Maths and English Language
    • Desirable
      • 5 or more GCSEs or equivalent (at least grade C) in a variety of subjects
  • Experience
    • Essential
      • Experience of working in a face-to-face customer service role.
    • Desirable
      • Reception/administration experience working for a healthcare provider.
  • Qualities/Attributes
    • Essential
      • Friendly and approachable with ability to deal with difficult people.
      • Able to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity at all times.
      • Ability to use own judgement and resourcefulness.
      • Ability to work without direct supervision and determine own workload priorities.
    • Desirable
      • Basic IT skills.
