We are excited to assist our client, a leader in Perishable Air-Imports, in their search for a knowledgeable Customs Clerk to enhance their growing team.

The salary for this position ranges from £38,000 to £45,000, with the potential to earn a higher salary based on your experience.

While experience with perishable goods is preferred, strong customs knowledge along with air and road transport expertise will also be considered.

This reputable independent company is looking for a Customs Clerk, ideally possessing experience with perishable goods and proficiency in managing the customs clearance process for these items entering the country via both air and road from the EU.

The role involves night shifts, working 4 shifts on and 4 shifts off, with flexible start times available at 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm for 12-hour shifts.

The ideal candidate will be a customs professional with strong numerical skills and excellent proficiency in Excel and other MS Office applications.

This position provides the opportunity to engage in various aspects of the business, including the ETSF Warehouse, Transport Operations, and collaboration with the sales team.


Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant Border Force, Port Health, and APHA regulations for perishable imports.
  • Coordinating with Transport Operations to oversee shipments in transit, ensuring effective management of the entire process.
  • Conducting and managing ETSF entries, ensuring compliance with Border Force regulations and facilitating all import controls.
  • Handling the complete APHA applications and customs clearance process from start to finish.
  • Maintaining communication with authorities, airlines, transport operations, and customers to keep all parties informed throughout the process.

Required skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in all Port/Plant Health applications, customs entries, ETSF protocols, and the new Border Procedures for EU Imports.
  • Strong working knowledge of office software, as well as customs-specific platforms such as Gov Gateway, Descartes, Sequoia/ASM, IPAFFS, CHEIF, CNS, CCS, Dstin8, Pentant, etc.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly during processing, with clearly defined practices using Excel worksheets and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Ability to generate leads and drive sales in the perishable imports sector through effective relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in following up on shipment statuses, collaborating with transport teams, and reporting to customers.
