We are excited to assist our client, a leader in Perishable Air-Imports, in their search for a knowledgeable Customs Clerk to become part of their growing team.

The compensation package ranges from 38k to 45k, with the potential to earn at the higher end based on your level of experience.

While experience with perishable goods is preferred, strong customs knowledge combined with air and road transport expertise is also highly valued.

This reputable independent company is looking for a Customs Clerk, ideally with experience in perishable goods, who can effectively manage the customs clearance process for perishable imports arriving via air and road from the EU.

The role involves night shifts, working 4 days on followed by 4 days off, with flexible start times of 4pm, 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm for 12-hour shifts.

We seek a customs professional who is numerically adept, possesses excellent Excel skills, and is proficient in other MS Office applications.

This position provides the chance to engage in various aspects of the business, including the ETSF Warehouse, Transport Operations, and collaboration with the sales team.


Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring adherence to all Border Force, Port Health, and APHA regulations for perishable imports.
  • Coordinating with Transport Operations to track shipments in transit, ensuring timely management of the entire process.
  • Effectively managing ETSF entries, ensuring compliance with Border Force regulations and facilitating all import controls.
  • Overseeing the complete APHA applications and customs clearance process from initiation to completion.
  • Maintaining communication with authorities, airlines, transport operations, and customers to keep all parties informed throughout the process.

The skills and experience required for this role include:

  • Proficiency in all Port/Plant Health applications, customs entries, ETSF protocols, and the new Border Procedures for EU Imports.
  • Strong working knowledge of office software, along with customs-specific platforms such as Gov Gateway, Descartes, Sequoia/ASM, IPAFFS, CHEIF, CNS, CCS, Dstin8, Pentant, etc.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly during processing, with clearly defined practices using Excel worksheets and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Ability to generate leads and drive sales in the perishable imports sector through effective relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in following up on shipment statuses, collaborating with transport teams, and reporting to customers.
