Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Aseptic Pharmacy Specialist to become a vital member of our Pharmacy Aseptic Services team at The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. The ideal candidate will be a registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPHC, demonstrating motivation and enthusiasm. Previous experience in accuracy checking and working within an Aseptic Services Pharmacy environment is a prerequisite.

Key Responsibilities

The Pharmacy Aseptic Services is responsible for the aseptic preparation of medications, including chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, and parenteral nutrition for patients. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing and verifying all components of the aseptic services process.
  • Collaborating closely with lead technicians to facilitate service delivery, training, and quality assurance within the department.

Job Duties

Managerial Responsibilities

  1. Act as a deputy for Specialist Technicians in their absence.
  2. Supervise the activities of Pharmacy Technicians, Students, and Pharmacy Assistants, ensuring compliance with service standards and documentation.
  3. Provide briefings to staff regarding rotations and any changes in procedures.
  4. Contribute to the strategic direction of the department.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Preparation of non-sterile medicinal products tailored for specific patients, including suspensions, creams, and ointments.
  • Preparation of sterile medicinal products in a controlled clean room environment, including parenteral nutrition and chemotherapy treatments.
  • Conducting dosage calculations and accurate measurements, requiring a high level of manual dexterity.
  • Verification of components on assembled batch trays for sterile products prior to processing.
  • Reviewing labels for sterile, non-sterile, and re-packaged products, ensuring accuracy before assembly.
  • Supervising the re-packaging processes conducted by Pharmacy Assistants in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-qualification experience in pharmacy.
  • Experience in dispensing medications.

Desirable

  • Experience in ward top-up services.
  • Experience in aseptic preparation and cytotoxic reconstitution.
  • Knowledge of Medicines Management and NHS operations.

  • BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent qualification.
