Position Overview

Fixed Term/Secondment Opportunity

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Outpatient Nursing Team at Powys Teaching Health Board. We are seeking a motivated, innovative, and compassionate Band 6 Lead Nurse to provide clinical guidance and professional support across various locations. The team covers a diverse range of specialties including ENT, Gynaecology, Oral Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, Rheumatology, and Ophthalmology.

Welsh language skills are advantageous for this role; however, applications from both English and Welsh speakers are encouraged.

The successful candidate will work a specified number of hours per week, with Brecon Hospital serving as the primary base. For further details, please refer to the attached job description.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will integrate outstanding clinical practice with daily shift coordination, undertaking leadership and management duties in support of the Senior Sister. You will consistently collaborate with the Senior Sister, including stepping in to lead the clinical area/team in their absence. The role requires flexibility to work across Powys as service demands dictate.

As a vital member of the multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for assessing patient care needs and developing, implementing, and evaluating care programs. The Lead Nurse will oversee the daily operations of the Outpatient Department, working closely with the nursing team to support junior staff in delivering direct patient care.

Additionally, you will assist the Management Team within the Outpatient Department with recruitment, resource allocation, and clinical risk management.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Current NMC Registration
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Relevant postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience, with a willingness to pursue further studies

Desirable:

  • Teaching qualification or equivalent experience
  • Recognized leadership qualification

Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NMC code
  • Experience in a multi-professional environment
  • Experience in departmental management
  • Understanding of broader nursing and healthcare agendas
  • Proficient IT skills
  • Supervisory management experience
