Job Overview

Carbon60 is in search of a proficient Project EC&I (Control & Instrumentation) Engineer to enhance our client's expanding Thermal Business Unit.

Position: Project EC&I Engineer (Control & Instrumentation)

Industry: Thermal Energy

Location: Remote with on-site requirements

Contract Length: Initial 6-Month Contract with potential for extension

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate

Security Clearance: BPSS required

  • Eligibility to work in the UK is essential.
  • Proximity for hybrid work is necessary.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee multi-disciplinary engineering tasks, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget while meeting customer specifications.
  • Manage the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept through to final handover.
  • Supervise contractor activities to ensure compliance with company standards and safety protocols.
  • Assist in defining engineering contract specifications and participate in the tender evaluation process.
  • Generate necessary Plant and Process Information (PPI) for ongoing plant support, ensuring compliance with governance checks and documentation standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members across various disciplines.
  • Contribute to the business capital budget preparation and maintain cost control.
  • Manage financial, procurement, and contract reporting independently.
  • Prepare documentation to support financial justifications for senior management review.
  • Engage in design, project management, and commissioning of plant modifications to ensure efficiency.
  • Oversee the acceptance and commissioning of equipment, developing maintenance schedules for optimal operation.
  • Stay updated on relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
  • Support management in achieving key objectives and deliverables.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum HNC in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • CompEx units 1 to 4 certification.
  • Familiarity with industry legislation and health and safety regulations.
  • Experience with engineering and plant design standards, including ATEX/DSEAR and Functional Safety (SIL).
  • Proven experience in the maintenance and engineering of EC&I systems.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Ability to work independently in a structured project environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Project management training is advantageous.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES

  • Experience in high hazard or COMAH environments.
  • CompEx unit 12 certification.
  • Background in project engineering.
