Job Overview

Carbon60 is in search of a proficient Project EC&I (Control & Instrumentation) Engineer to enhance our client's expanding Thermal Business Unit.

Position: Project EC&I Engineer (Control & Instrumentation)

Industry: Thermal Energy

Location: Hybrid working arrangement

Contract Length: Initial 6-Month Contract with Potential for Extension

Compensation: £60 per hour, Inside IR35 via Umbrella

Security Clearance: BPSS

  • Eligibility to work in the UK is mandatory for this role.
  • Must be within a reasonable commuting distance for hybrid work, with 3 days on-site.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As a multi-disciplinary engineering expert, you will plan work and financial schedules to ensure timely and budget-compliant project delivery, aligned with customer specifications.
  • Oversee the complete project lifecycle for assigned tasks, from initial concept through design, installation, commissioning, and final handover.
  • Manage and direct contractor activities to ensure compliance with company standards and safety protocols.
  • Assist in defining engineering contract specifications, prepare necessary documentation, and participate in tender evaluations to secure contracts that serve the company's best interests.
  • Ensure all required Plant and Process Information (PPI) is generated for ongoing support of plant and assets as dictated by projects, maintaining governance checks and documentation for compliance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to technical staff across disciplines, leveraging your expertise.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the business capital budget and manage costs to meet financial targets.
  • Demonstrate self-sufficiency in managing financial, procurement, and contract reporting requirements.
  • Possess a clear understanding of financial justifications and prepare documentation to support senior management decision-making processes.
  • Engage actively in the design, project management, and commissioning of plant modifications, ensuring timely and cost-effective execution.
  • Supervise the acceptance and commissioning of plant and equipment, developing maintenance schedules to ensure reliable operations.
  • Stay informed about relevant standards and regulations, including Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidelines, Environment Agency requirements, and other technical matters.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
  • Support management in achieving key objectives and deliverables.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of HNC in an Engineering Discipline (or equivalent).
  • CompEx units 1 to 4 certification.
  • Familiarity with industry legislation and Health and Safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of engineering and plant design standards.
  • Experience with relevant engineering and plant design standards, such as ATEX/DSEAR and Functional Safety (SIL).
  • Background in the maintenance and engineering of EC&I plant and equipment.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Ability to work independently in a structured project environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of representing the company to external organizations.
  • Training in project management processes.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES

  • Experience on high hazard or COMAH sites.
  • CompEx unit 12 certification.
  • Project engineering experience.
