Job Purpose

Oversee the mechanical and electrical engineering teams within the APU, ensuring adherence to engineering reliability and compliance standards. Collaborate with the APU Leader to manage operational performance and oversee the APU engineering budget effectively. Utilize established PS&O processes to develop comprehensive gap plans and ensure their execution within the specified timeframe and budget. Continuously assess and manage engineering performance within the APU, from daily operations to long-term strategies.

Core Responsibilities
  • Guide, nurture, and inspire engineering personnel within the team, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve optimal efficiency.
  • Provide direct engineering support to enhance safety, reliability, and production efficiency in alignment with site objectives.
  • Monitor the progress of engineering initiatives, promoting holistic decision-making with a full value stream perspective, and provide necessary updates.
  • Oversee the activities of team members and engineering contractors within the APU, ensuring compliance with quality, environmental, and health and safety standards.
  • Lead the PS&O process, conducting timely scope challenge activities in collaboration with the gap planner.
  • Deliver the APU gap maintenance plan within budget and on schedule, with assistance from the APU Leader and Process Leader, in conjunction with the Engineering Support Manager and MRP team.
  • Direct both reactive and proactive engineering initiatives, ensuring compliance actions are executed and best practices such as AVI's, duty standby routines, and asset condition monitoring are followed. Work with support team SMEs to ensure proper routines and PPMs are established.
  • Exemplify the highest standards of personal health and safety, collaborating effectively with team members to execute tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Act as the deputy for the APU Leader during their absence.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
  • Vocational training certification in mechanical engineering.
  • NEBOSH safety Certificate is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with British Standards for Engineering Plant, Equipment, and Practices.
  • Comprehensive understanding of industrial mechanical systems, along with substantial mechanical experience in a complex manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing maintenance improvement programs and reliability-centered maintenance principles.
  • Experience in leading, motivating, and engaging teams, both directly and indirectly (in the case of managing contractors).
  • Proven ability to navigate complex and conflicting requirements in an industrial context.
  • High level of credibility and effective communication skills across all levels of the factory and operations function.
