About the Role
We are seeking a Configuration Manager to join our esteemed Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) division in Crawley. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in establishing strategic direction and ensuring the effective application of Configuration Management principles throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop Configuration Management (CM) plans for both new and ongoing projects, tailoring implementation strategies effectively.
- Assist in identifying contract and subcontract requirements to guarantee optimal CM performance from partners and suppliers.
- Create, maintain, and execute the CM Plan in alignment with organizational policies and contractual obligations.
- Specify and uphold compliance with CM requirements for contractors and suppliers.
- Conduct audits and assessments of contractors and suppliers to ensure adherence to CM processes and deliverables.
- Define the product and its associated data accurately.
- Engage in design and stage reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.).
- Establish and maintain configuration baselines (FBL, ABL, PBL).
- Participate in the selection of configuration items and the development of product breakdown structures and Bills of Materials.
- Manage the configuration change management system, including internal and external Change Control Boards (CCBs).
- Coordinate and oversee the configuration change process for design modifications, including item changes, document changes, deviations, waivers, and trial modifications.
- Ensure traceability of design changes throughout the design and implementation phases.
- Maintain and release the Configuration Status Report (CSR) to document configuration management phases and milestones.
- Capture, verify, and control configuration information ('as built', 'as installed', 'as tested', and 'as maintained').
- Plan and execute configuration verifications and audits (PCA & FCA).
- Foster a proactive and innovative mindset within the team.
- Delegate tasks effectively within the CM team.
- Provide insights on the efficiency and effectiveness of the development environment.
- Report on CM Key Performance Indicators.
- Assist in generating project estimates.
- Facilitate communication regarding key issues addressed by Engineering.
About You:
- You possess a strong command of standard configuration management processes and tools, particularly those associated with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
- A degree in an engineering discipline is preferred.
- You have a solid understanding of operational processes and methodologies (Bids & Projects, Engineering, Production, and Services).
- Your knowledge of system integration principles (System, Hardware, and Software) is commendable.
- You can adapt and evaluate the configuration management system alongside contractual and commercial requirements.
- You are adept at applying Lean Management principles and Agile methodologies to team management and development.
- You thrive in complex and dynamic environments.
- You possess knowledge of Hardware and Software CM practices and tools.
- You can articulate your needs and initiatives effectively to gain buy-in.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous experience in configuration management within defence or engineering sectors, or in delivering MOD projects.
- Familiarity with standards such as DEF Stan.
- Experience with Windchill PLM software.
Security Clearance:
This position requires full SC Clearance. While current clearance is advantageous, successful candidates must obtain and maintain SC Clearance. Eligibility typically requires residency in the UK for the past five years, with some exceptions for a minimum of three years.
