About the Role:

We are excited to present an opportunity for a Configuration Manager to join the Thales Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) business line in Crawley.

As a Configuration Manager, you will play a pivotal role in your assigned programmes, offering strategic guidance and ensuring the effective application of Configuration Management principles throughout the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop CM planning for both new and ongoing projects, crafting a tailored CM Implementation strategy.
  • Assist in identifying contract and subcontract requirements to guarantee effective CM performance from partners and suppliers.
  • Create, maintain, and execute the CM Plan in alignment with policies and contractual obligations.
  • Specify, uphold, and ensure compliance with CM Contractor and Supplier requirements.
  • Conduct audits and assessments of Contractors and Suppliers to verify that CM processes, systems, and deliverables meet established requirements.
  • Ensure accurate definition of the product and its associated data.
  • Engage in design and stage reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.).
  • Oversee the establishment and maintenance of configuration baselines (FBL, ABL, PBL).
  • Participate in the selection of configuration items and the subsequent breakdown of products and Bills of Materials.
  • Establish and maintain the configuration change management system, including internal and external CCBs.
  • Coordinate and manage the configuration change process for design alterations, including item changes, document modifications, deviations, waivers, concessions, and trial modifications.
  • Ensure traceability of design changes throughout the design and implementation phases.
  • Establish, maintain, and release the CSR to describe the configuration management phases and milestones, tracking design evolution and implementation.
  • Capture, verify, and control 'as built', 'as installed', 'as tested', and 'as maintained' configuration information.
  • Plan and conduct configuration verifications and audits (PCA & FCA).
  • Foster a proactive, 'can-do' attitude within the function and promote innovative thinking.
  • Delegate tasks within the CM team effectively.
  • Provide insights on the efficiency and effectiveness of the development environment.
  • Report on CM Key Performance Indicators.
  • Assist in generating estimates.
  • Ensure effective communication of key issues being addressed by Engineering.

About You:

  • You possess mastery of standard configuration management processes and tools, particularly those associated with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
  • A degree in an engineering discipline is preferred.
  • You have a solid understanding of operational processes and methods (Bids & Projects, Engineering, Production, and Services).
  • You are knowledgeable about system integration principles (System, Hardware, and Software).
  • You can adapt and evaluate the configuration management system alongside contractual and commercial requirements.
  • You are familiar with Lean Management approaches and can apply Agile principles to team management and development.
  • You excel in managing complexity and thrive in dynamic environments.
  • You have expertise in Hardware & Software CM practices and tools.
  • You can effectively communicate your needs and initiatives to gain buy-in.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in configuration management within defence or engineering organizations or involvement in MOD project delivery.
  • Familiarity with standards such as DEF Stan.
  • Experience with Windchill PLM software.

Security Clearance:

This role necessitates full SC Clearance. While it is advantageous to currently hold this clearance, the successful candidate must undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance.
