Configuration Management Specialist

Your Role:
We are seeking a skilled Configuration Manager to join our esteemed Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) division in Crawley. In this pivotal role, you will establish yourself within designated programmes, offering strategic guidance and applying Configuration Management principles throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Configuration Management (CM) plans for both new and ongoing projects, ensuring tailored CM strategies are effectively executed.
- Identify contract and subcontract requirements to guarantee optimal CM performance from partners and suppliers.
- Create, maintain, and enforce the CM Plan in alignment with established policies and contractual obligations.
- Specify and uphold compliance with CM requirements for contractors and suppliers.
- Conduct audits and assessments of contractors and suppliers to verify adherence to CM processes and deliverables.
- Ensure accurate definition and documentation of the product and its associated data.
- Engage in design and stage reviews (PDR, CDR, etc.).
- Establish and maintain configuration baselines (FBL, ABL, PBL).
- Participate in the selection of configuration items and the development of product breakdown structures and Bills of Materials.
- Oversee and manage the configuration change management system, including internal and external Change Control Boards (CCBs).
- Coordinate and control the configuration change process for design modifications, including item changes, document alterations, deviations, waivers, and trial modifications.
- Ensure traceability of design changes throughout the design and implementation phases.
- Maintain and release the Configuration Status Report (CSR) to track design evolution and implementation milestones.
- Capture, verify, and manage 'as built', 'as installed', 'as tested', and 'as maintained' configuration data.
- Plan and execute configuration verifications and audits (PCA & FCA).
- Foster a proactive and innovative mindset within the team.
- Delegate tasks effectively within the CM team.
- Provide insights on the efficiency and effectiveness of the development environment.
- Report on CM Key Performance Indicators.
- Assist in generating project estimates.
- Facilitate the flow of information regarding key issues being addressed by Engineering.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in standard configuration management processes and tools, particularly those associated with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).
- A degree in an engineering discipline is preferred.
- Strong understanding of operational processes and methodologies (Bids & Projects, Engineering, Production, and Services).
- Solid knowledge of system integration principles (System, Hardware, and Software).
- Able to adapt and evaluate the configuration management system in relation to contractual and commercial requirements.
- Experience with Lean Management and Agile principles in team management and development.
- Capable of managing complexity and thriving in dynamic environments.
- Familiarity with Hardware and Software CM practices and tools.
- Able to articulate and gain support for your needs and initiatives.
Desirable:
- Prior experience in configuration management within defence or engineering sectors, or in delivering MOD projects.
- Experience adhering to standards such as DEF Stan.
- Familiarity with Windchill PLM software.
Security Clearance:
This position requires full SC Clearance. While it is advantageous to currently hold this clearance, it is mandatory for the successful candidate to undergo the necessary process to achieve and maintain SC Clearance.
