Role Title: Principal
Reports to: Executive Leadership Team
Salary: from £60,000 based on experience
Purpose of the Role:
The Principal will provide dynamic leadership and management across all EdStart Schools, enhancing the professional efforts of educators by overseeing learning activities in accordance with established guidelines and school policies. The aim is to ensure that EdStart Schools deliver exceptional educational services and achieve optimal outcomes for students while fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration among the institutions.
The three schools in Bolton serve students with diverse Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. The selected candidate will oversee all three locations, with support from the Senior Management Team, Executive Leadership, and local Heads of School.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Instill a shared vision across all schools, ensuring clarity among staff and parents.
- Formulate and assess the strategic plan of the organization, aligning key objectives with school improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate the progress of improvement strategies and self-assessment documents, providing necessary challenges to maintain focus on strategic goals.
- Cultivate positive relationships with stakeholders and the broader community.
Organizational Management
- Supervise senior leaders, offering constructive support and challenges to ensure optimal student outcomes.
- Conduct performance evaluations in accordance with company protocols.
- Assist in managing the organization’s budget and resources effectively.
- Aid in the development and execution of school-wide policies.
- Allocate financial resources judiciously and efficiently.
- Foster and retain high-caliber staff through effective professional development and performance assessments.
- Establish transparent communication channels with all stakeholders.
- Monitor staff wellbeing and workload, implementing strategies to promote a healthy work environment.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks and statutory obligations.
- Safeguard the welfare of staff and students through effective safeguarding measures.
- Collaborate successfully with other educational institutions and external organizations.
- Maintain productive relationships with fellow professionals to enhance educational outcomes for all students.
Teaching and Learning
- Design and implement a comprehensive curriculum that meets statutory requirements.
- Ensure high-quality teaching across all subjects and educational phases, grounded in evidence-based practices.
- Set ambitious expectations for all students, including those with SEN and Disabilities, promoting an inclusive environment that allows all students to engage with the curriculum.
- Cultivate curriculum leadership by developing subject leaders with expertise and access to professional networks.
- Encourage a collaborative culture where best practices are shared to achieve the best outcomes for students.
- Ensure that valid and reliable methods are employed to assess students' understanding of the curriculum.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
- Qualified teacher status.
- Degree.
- National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) is advantageous.
- National SENCo qualification is desirable.
Experience
- Proven leadership and management experience in a secondary educational setting.
- Comprehensive understanding of independent school standards.
- Secondary teaching experience.
- Engagement in school self-evaluation and development planning.
- Demonstrated success in line management and staff development.
Skills and Knowledge
- Proficient in data analysis, with the ability to utilize data for target setting and identifying areas for improvement.
- Knowledge of high-quality teaching practices based on evidence, with the capability to model and support others in enhancing their teaching.
- Understanding of curriculum development.
- Familiarity with school finances and financial management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to articulate a vision and inspire others.
