Gastroenterology Specialist

Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled professional to become part of our dedicated team in delivering exceptional gastroenterology services. This role encompasses outpatient, inpatient, and endoscopic gastroenterology care.
This opportunity is primarily full-time; however, we welcome candidates interested in part-time or job-sharing arrangements. Should a part-time or job-share candidate be selected, we will discuss adjustments to the job plan tailored to individual needs.
A particular focus in Gastroenterology, whether at a general or hepatology level, is desirable. You will typically hold clinical responsibility for a range of outpatient and inpatient gastroenterological patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver a high-quality, comprehensive gastroenterology service within a district general hospital setting, including endoscopic procedures, while ensuring effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions.
- Actively contribute to the continuous enhancement of the gastroenterology service, aligning with national guidelines and NICE recommendations.
- Provide professional oversight and mentorship to junior medical staff, adhering to local employment and human resource policies.
- Engage in educational responsibilities, including teaching, examinations, and accreditation duties, contributing to medical education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Participate in medical audits and clinical effectiveness initiatives, particularly within the framework of the Trust's Clinical Governance processes, promoting improvements in quality and standards.

The job plan will outline the Consultant's responsibilities, objectives, and commitments for the upcoming year, encompassing clinical duties, teaching, research, and managerial roles. It will include a clear schedule of both internal and external commitments, along with personal objectives linked to broader service goals.
Essential Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice.
- Higher UK qualification - MRCP or equivalent recognized by the GMC.
- Knowledge and application of contemporary evidence-based practices.
- Proven ability to independently manage the clinical care of patients.
- Experience in postgraduate education.
- Awareness of current trends within the specialty.
Desirable Qualifications
- Relevant higher degree (Master's, Doctorate, or equivalent).
- Training in Thoracoscopy and pleural ultrasound.
- Subspecialty expertise within Gastroenterology.
