London, Greater London, United Kingdom Ministry of Defence Full time

Job Overview

This position involves a job share arrangement (3 days per week) and serves as a team leader responsible for managing Professionally Qualified (PQ) Officers and Trainees within the Army Medical Services (AMS). The role collaborates with a dedicated team of AMS Officers, Soldiers, and Civilian personnel.

Reporting to the Corps Colonel AMS at HQ AMS, located in Camberley, this position necessitates briefing the Colonel AMS, Head AMS, and Master General AMS, while also facilitating communication across the Defence Medical Services (DMS) sector, focusing on Healthcare and Medical capability (HMOC).

Engagement and recruitment within the Corps are critical areas of focus, requiring a comprehensive understanding of the internal dynamics of the AMS, DMS deanery, and relevant National Governing Bodies and University programs. This role will also provide insights to Personnel Policy in the Cadet and Bursar domains, alongside Army Recruit and Initial Training Command (ARITC) and Medical Entry Standards, recognizing that many professional entrants may exceed the standard entry age.

Understanding the application process, Army Officer Selection Boards (AOSB), and the initial training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) is essential. An awareness of the balance between academic/professional study and the recruitment process is highly beneficial.

Training in IT and Army recruitment software and communication tools will be provided.

Role Responsibilities

The Professional Healthcare & Regulatory Engagement Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the future of the AMS by attracting and developing top-tier Professionally Qualified medical, nursing, and allied health professionals for service within the LAND operational environment.

A Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance is essential for this role, as it involves close interaction with bursars and cadets in sixth forms, universities, and University Officer Training Corps.

Guiding prospective AMS Officers through the recruitment and extended Phase 1 training pathway requires a unique skill set. This includes collaboration with the Royal Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Veterinary Medicine, while aligning with Army Personnel Policy / ARITC and DMS Policy (Unified Career Management (UCM) Medical) to ensure seamless operations.

Strong organizational skills are necessary to conduct Boards in accordance with service policy and align with Career Management, both at the Army Personnel Centre (APC) and UCM, serving as the Single Point of Contact (SPoC) for entry into training pathways that may extend up to 7 years, managed by external providers and the Defence Medical Academy (DMA).

Required Skills

The ideal candidate for the Professional Healthcare & Regulatory Engagement Officer position will possess:

  • Leadership and Communication abilities
  • Change management expertise
  • Value for money orientation
  • Decision-making skills with a strategic perspective

  • Obtain or hold a valid Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS, or equivalent) clearance
  • Effectively manage Civil Servants and Military personnel
  • Engage articulately, both verbally and in writing, with ARITC and the Royal Colleges, grounded in a solid understanding of the clinical professional landscape
  • Develop and adapt policies and Continuing Education and Training (CET) activities that impact AMS recruitment
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of budget limitations and respond appropriately
  • Show the ability to balance multiple leads, whether from DMS, AMS, or ARITC, for the greater organizational benefit

Behavioral Competencies

During the selection process, candidates will be evaluated on the following behaviors:

  • Seeing the Big Picture
  • Changing and Improving
  • Making Effective Decisions
  • Leadership
  • Communicating and Influencing

Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary of £43,080, the Ministry of Defence contributes £11,631 towards your membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Additional benefits include:

  • A culture that promotes inclusion and diversity
  • An average employer contribution of 27% towards your pension

Please note that the position does not offer relocation expenses.

Where operational needs permit, some roles may allow for a combination of office and home-based work. This arrangement is non-contractual, with all office-based employees expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in the office, subject to capacity and necessary workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business will also count towards this attendance level. Further information regarding these arrangements can be requested from the Vacancy Holder.
